Forest of the Future

Recently our Year 10 Geographers were given the opportunity to get involved in a local project run in partnership with Lancaster University and The Woodland Trust.

The Forest of the Future Project was proposed by the University who then, working alongside the Woodland Trust, encouraged the wider community to get involved in the large scale planting of native trees such as Oak, Rowan, Alder and Silver Birch. The chosen site for the planting project was a 0.5 hectare open bank of grassland on the University’s Forrest Hills site.

It is hoped that this project will provide significant benefits such as flood mitigation, offsetting transport related carbon emissions and ecosystem restoration.  This project has seen more than 1000 deciduous trees planted with a significant contribution from our Year 10 students.

In addition to this, part of the day was spent on a campus tour of Lancaster University giving our students a taste of University life.
